Unlikely Allies eBook Tiffany King

I really like this book and love seeing a friend read this which made me what to. This is my first Tiffany King book. The story was good and well paced. Kimberly thought for eighteen years that her dad abandoned her to realize he never knew of her existence. She decides to visit him the summer before she starts college. She gets to the camp and is nervous about working with kids but soon makes friends except Mason her dad Rick's foster son. Mason is terrified that Kimberly will break Ricks heart (and maybe his). Their relationship is antagonistic and funny especially the references to CW shows. The story gets intense fast and love blooms. I loved the story so much and wish it was longer because I read it in one day which for me is really not something new but obsessing over reading it does not happen often for me.

Unlikely Allies eBook Tiffany King Reviews

Kimberly just turned eighteen and her mom laid down a bomb-shell. Dropping everything, she goes to spend time with the father she’s never met, which lands her smack dab in the middle of the Colorado wilderness. Her dad runs a summer camp for foster kids and Kimberly is determined to prove that she can live in this backwards place. Not to mention, the attractive Mason is bent on pointing out her every flaw.

I really enjoyed this book, but once again I read the reviews before I picked it up, so I think my expectations were a bit too high. The book was well written and I loved the characters and plot, but from the reviews, I thought it would be a bit more intense and traumatic than it was. People were saying they were crying and had so many emotions coming out of this book, but I just didn’t feel the same. That is why I think I had a bit too high of expectations for the book. There is tragedy in this book and I think the author did an excellent job with writing it, but I just thought there would be like ten more blows before the book was over.

I really liked all the characters in this book, a lot. Tiffany King did an excellent job with presenting great back-stories for some of the campers (it would have been nice to hear more of Amy’s and even more of Mason’s). I loved Kimberly’s strength and determination. I’m so glad that she wasn’t one of those whinny girls that hated the outdoors, which going into this book, I thought she would be. Her dad is also an amazing person and he made me want to go and give my dad a big hug.

Overall, this book was really good. My issues above are nothing against the book at all. It’s just more of a person issue of my expectations.

I really wish the book could be a bit longer, actually. There was so much great content and the author could really push so many things in this just a step further. After the drama of this book comes to the climax, I really wish there was more to the fall-out/recovery. But the book is still worth the read.
I knew that my good book roll had to come to an end eventually…and oh did it. To say the least, I am severely disappointed with this book even after it received such raving reviews. My main problems with this book

The plot…or lack there of…was incredibly dull. Maybe I had too high of an expectation for Unlikely Allies – that it would be more like Blue Lagoon rather than a bad ABC show like Dance Academy.
Kimberly & Mason annoyed me sooo much! It just didn’t make sense why he instantly hated her – and the explanation given was again dull. Their mean jabs at each other or apparent ‘sexual tension’ was just silly, and made me cringe…not in the good way.
Gosh! Kimberly, someone needs to slap you! Her inner monologue was just boring. She didn’t evolve as a character, nor was she remotely interesting to read about. I don’t care if you are happy about giving somebody a nickname…let alone want to read half a page about it. Yes I admire her affection for the foster kids, and yes I think her kindness towards others is admirable..BUT girl you need to stop whining. Like most of the characters, she lacked depth.
The good?
It was the characters Rick & Amy that allowed me to attain some joy throughout this book. Gosh! I wish Amy was my friend. She is so witty, and I Ioved her back story.

To be honest I think that King could have done a whole lot more with her characters and the premise for this book, instead of making it a bad diary entry of a teenager…I’m sorry but the dialogue was weird. I have yet to meet people who speak that way. The conversations seemed forced.

Again I think it was my expectations that clouded my overall perception of this book.
