Subject matter aside, the style of writing was very reminiscent of Vonnegut. The author works you slowly and deliberately into the mind of the demented so that you never realize where you are until it's too late. With that said, I found the entire plot just a rambling on of events that lead nowhere. Unless you consider whose bed the MC finally ends up in. Nothing like reading the sordid details of a demented and screwed up family.

This book was just sickening to me. It wasn't apparent at first that incest was involved and I kept reading to find out who killed Suzie. The endless sexual liaisons were sickening and I thought it possible the character may have been molested at some time because of what I understand about sexual disfunction. The cats, which I usually like,(but not this many); added an odd tangent which was not necessary. I was even more sickened when I got to the end and was sorry I wasted my time.
This book contained way too much sexually explicit phrasing which I don't enjoy reading. Writing style was good, characters realistic and the story line was likewise adequate. I did not even finish this book due to the vulgar sexual scenes. I realize it's 2012 and some people may enjoy this kind of writing, but so not for me.
I read perhaps half of the book.

mostly a good story but it carried you through a lot of things that most folks never think of or experience. was a llittle gorey in spots but overall a good learning story . Makes you thankful for what you have in normal life
When I start reading a book, I always finish it but I have to say this was hard work finishing this one. It is full of incest, foul language and really not worthy of someone's time. There should be a rating on this book warning readers about the contents. I love thrillers but not like this. It breaks all moral boundaries and then some.
I read some of the reviews before I read this book. I didn't find it as trashy as some seemed to think. I've read several books and seen several movies with a lot worse content. I found it an interesting psychological study into the dynamics of a truly dysfunctional family and how behaviours in families can repeat themselves. I found it hard to read though because of all the long narrative and, I admit I skimmed through a lot of it.
Purchased this kindle book on based on the story description (and it was free). Never heard of the author before but figured I'd give it a try. It was a bit confusing at first since it has "flashbacks" but after it happens a few times you realize when that's happening. The story line is not exactly like it was described on and I'm not so sure I would have bought it had it said the exact story. Given all that - I've read some other reviews about the book & author and would probably try his other books as this one seems to be an "outlier". And OK read with a bit of a sensitive storyline.
